Headteacher's Welcome

Inspiring Creativity                 Fostering Compassion                      Nurturing Excellence

On behalf of the children, staff and governors, a very warm welcome to you.  Thank you for visiting our school website.

Ludwell Primary School is a small community school in the friendly village of Ludwell, Wiltshire which is just a few short miles from Shaftesbury, a small market town in Dorset.  We currently have four mixed year group classes. The children enjoy the use of our vast and beautiful school grounds, develop from our broad and meaningful curriculum and are supported to reach their potential by our dedicated teaching team.  We are a small school, embracing our journey of continual improvement.

At Ludwell Primary School, we are passionate about learning and wellbeing.  We believe that a successful learning community, is a happy and supportive one.  Children are supported to be focused, kind and safe in their approach with the intention of empowering them to become life-long independent learners.  Wellbeing is not an add on or an afterthought following a busy day…it is in fact part of the foundations which underpin our positive approach, our relationships with one and other, and our ability to self-regulate when faced with challenges.  Our ‘wellbeing warriors’, ‘the nest’ and mindfulness approach to PSHE are just a few ways in which we promote this.

We offer a full, broad and meaningful curriculum, including a wide variety of enrichment and extra-curricular activities including adventurous activities such as forest school, archery, tunneling and hip-hop dancing to caring for others and feeding new born lambs.  Our curriculum is inclusive of what is both formally and informally taught throughout the school day.  We are proud to adopt an enquiry approach using the ‘curious city framework’ across our wider curriculum and are committed to ensuring any decisions around curriculum and pedagogy is evidenced based.

We seek to create an environment where independent learning, creativity and kindness is at the heart of all we do.  Our children are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and their environment. Furthermore, through collective assemblies, children learn about the importance of moral values such as honesty, respect, tolerance and trust.  We actively celebrate diversity and ensure equality of opportunity, ensuring our curriculum is built on and promotes democracy.

We are fully committed to establishing a strong partnership between home and school and working with you to promote the emotional, spiritual and moral well- being of your child as well as making sure that they achieve their academic potential. One of our strengths is that we aim to put the individual child at the heart of everything we do and actively encourage our pupils to have a voice in our community.

We are very proud to be part of the Pickwick family of schools.  Pickwick provide us with robust support and are committed to ensuring all of the pupils across the Trust’s eight schools thrive www.pickwickacademytrust.co.uk.
