At Ludwell, we believe that the skills of a Computing Engineer provide the foundations for pupils' achievement throughout the whole curriculum and all other areas of learning and life for now and the future.
As computing engineers, we want pupils to be masters of technology. In this modern world, where we are surrounded by technology, it is important that pupils have the knowledge and skills to use technology in many different ways. We understand that future generations will be more and more reliant on technology, so want to prepare pupils to understand the benefits of being a competent computing engineer. It is our aim at Ludwell to equip pupils with the knowledge and understanding of the three core areas of computing (Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy). We want our pupils to embrace technology and its benefits by providing regular opportunities through cross curricular learning.
‘Being a Computing Engineer’ Curriculum Implementation
- We use “Purple Mash” as our curriculum basis. Purple Mash is an engaging, online platform that we use as the starting point to deliver our lessons.
- Pupils are exposed to technology and are given the opportunity to use and develop their skills across the wider school curriculum.
- Pupils are taught the importance of staying safe online, and are shown ways to deal with problems that arise when using technology.
- We have modern, up to date Chromebooks that are used in most computing lessons. These are also used in wider school life to support learning.
- Every class has a set of iPads that pupils are able to use to support their learning.
- Pupils are exposed to a range of different software, and learn skills relevant to these.
- Technology can be used to support home learning, with pupils having access to Google Classroom, which staff can use to set and monitor tasks and learning.

- Pupils enjoy computing and develop knowledge and life skills which they regularly apply in different situations.
- Pupils are aware of the importance of staying safe online. They understand how to identify possible risks, and what to do when particular problems or situations may arise.
- Pupils are methodical, and think about their approaches – this is a vital cross-curricular skill.
- Pupils can identify problems, and use perseverance to find appropriate solutions.
- Pupils knowledge of a wide range of different software.
